Bigtorage, a company specializing in the optimal control and operation technologies for Energy Storage Systems (ESS), announced on the 14th that it has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Sungrow Power Korea to expand their presence in the ESS market.
The agreement aims to leverage the growth potential of the domestic ESS market by combining Bigtorage’s technological capabilities with Sungrow’s global competitiveness to jointly develop a power management system (PMS) and platform system integration (SI) optimized for the Korean environment.
Bigtorage will provide technical support, product solutions, and maintenance services for the development of PMS and platform systems that are compatible with ESS control systems. Both companies plan to build customized systems that meet the specific needs and characteristics of the domestic market. In addition, Sungrow is reviewing the option of prioritizing the adoption of the jointly developed PMS and platform in its ESS solutions.
Through this collaboration, the two companies aim to offer solutions that enhance energy efficiency and operational stability, contribute to sustainable energy transition and smart energy infrastructure, and foster growth and development in the domestic renewable energy market. By cooperating in targeted markets, both companies plan to enhance the completeness of existing ESS solutions and strengthen their competitiveness both locally and globally.
This MOU solidifies a cooperative framework to jointly pioneer the domestic ESS market and serves as a strategic foundation for discovering diverse future business opportunities. Bigtorage has already applied its ESS control technology across various sectors including EV charging stations, refrigerated trucks, and commercial buildings. With its experience in PMS construction based on ESS and scalable platform technologies, the company has secured a competitive edge.
Notably, in Naju, South Jeolla Province, Bigtorage has built a PMS system for ESS that integrates solar power generation and EV chargers. Earlier this year, the company also began supplying locally customized PMS solutions and EMS platforms to the Vietnamese market, signaling the start of its global expansion. Currently, Bigtorage is accelerating its entry into overseas markets and enhancing its brand recognition through collaboration with various global enterprises.
Sungrow, a global leader in renewable energy known for its PV inverter solutions and ESS, achieved a cumulative inverter shipment of 605 GW worldwide as of 2024, including 3.5 GW in the Korean market alone. Through this agreement, Sungrow aims to further strengthen its position in the Korean energy market with its advanced ESS solutions while maximizing synergy by sharing global market trends and exploring strategic joint business opportunities.
